University of Milano‐Bicocca - UNIMIB

The University of Milano‐Bicocca was established in 1998 to serve Northern Italy. The University is a gateway to professionalism and educates scientists and technicians from Italian industries, as Milan is historically open to competition, innovation, and internationalism. As a result of the continual collaboration between the
University and the business community, the University is partnering in projects worldwide. The Department of Material Science is chronologically the second department that was
established at the University. Born as the result of the convergence between the group of solid state physics and the material chemists operating
at the departments of chemistry of the State University of Milan, the Department has reached an excellent ranking at the national and international level for its research activity, fully integrating chemical and physical expertise in the development of novel materials. Its scientific facilities include analytical and spectroscopic equipment as well as material preparation and processing capabilities.

Partner's role
UNIMIB (also along with CNR IMM – third party) will focus its contribution to SINERGY on thermoelectrics. It will prepare silicon and metal silicide−based polycrystalline nanowires using top−down, IC−compatible technologies. PolyNWs will be characterised both structurally and electrically. UNIMIB contribution will aim at obtaining dense NW arrays, either lying parallel to the substrate plane or oriented normal to it, that will be integrated in a prototype to be used in the SINERGY demonstrator. UNIMIB will also partner to establish integration criteria and to the design of the demonstrator itself.
