Open Innovation è un termine promosso da Henry Chesbrough, professore e direttore esecutivo del Center for Open Innovation at Berkeley. L'idea centrale di questo modello è che, in un mondo dove la conoscenza è largamente diffusa e distribuita, le aziende non possono basarsi solo sulle proprie risorse interne, ma possono e devono far leva anche sulle persone all'esterno dell'azienda.
